King Kamali - Calls It How It Is

An Q&A with King in February 2003

Submitted By: Hardcore

King Kamali was gracious enough to grant us with a few answers in an chat we had with him in December 2003.

-HARDCORE

[King, showing why you should bow in his presence]

HARDCORE BODYBUILDING ON THE WEB:
Hi King, I have a couple of questions for you, if you could take the time to answer them I would much appreciate that. Hardcore Bodybuilding on the Web members (no they don't hate you, we actually like you) would like to ask you a few questions.

First, your attitude in BB'ing is quite unmatched. You publicly state you don't hang out with most bodybuilders because they are a bunch of liars. I am sure this is quite commonplace, but why do you think this is?
KING KAMALI:
I don't hang out with bodybuilders for a few reasons: All they know and talk about is BB, the most popular topic of conversation is either drugs or wife swapping and last but not least the drama that comes with this sport is just not my style.

HARDCORE BODYBUILDING ON THE WEB:
How did you get branded as a "smart-ass" of the bodybuilding world?
KING KAMALI:
I'm not sure if I got branded as a "smart ass" but rather an "asshole". I speak my mind and I am naturally a very confident person... Put those two together and you get a dangerous combination. I can't stand fake people and as the official IFBB regulator I like to expose these fools and expose them I do.

HARDCORE BODYBUILDING ON THE WEB:
There are so many Bodybuilding Forums out there that are haters when it comes to you, here at HARDCORE we have NO hating (well except for Greg Valentino ) and would like to welcome you to our forum. How did that all get started? Did you go on the boards and "call it like you saw it"?
KING KAMALI:
I have achieved a lot in a short period of time and some people just can't deal with it... So in return they hate... Simple as that.

HARDCORE BODYBUILDING ON THE WEB:
What are your plans for the upcoming year?
KING KAMALI:
I am currently getting ready for the 2004 Arnold Classic.. I am giving it all I have and then some.

HARDCORE BODYBUILDING ON THE WEB:
What is a typical meal for you?
KING KAMALI:
A typical Meal 1 will go something like this:

  • 12 oz. lean steak
  • 2 packs of fruit and cream oatmeal
  • 1 banana
  • 75 grams of whey protein isolate
  • 10 grams glutamine
  • 32 oz. spring water

HARDCORE BODYBUILDING ON THE WEB:
One more Question if you don't mind, how old were you when you started BB'ing and what was your biggest obstacle along the way?
KING KAMALI:
No problem Bruce. I started bodybuilding at age 16 and the biggest obstacle was, and still is, haters. Peace.

KING KAMALI:
Best of luck to you and the Iron-Heads on your forum. Stay cool and keep it real.
